Gemini Duo

Materials used:

two painted plaster casts of my face;
sea glass from Hawaii, Bonaire, Bahamas;
sea urchin spikes, Hawaii;
painted tree moss, Montana;
painted pine fronds, Montana;
two square canvas bases, painted and join together.

Gemini is the third astrological sign in the zodiac, symbolized by The Twins, and representing the Element of AIR. Keywords for those born under the sign are: communication, collaboration, wittiness, inventiveness, and ingenuity. This sign also craves “twin flame” and kindred spirit energy. Since Gemini is the first of three AIR Elements in the zodiac, it's like the first gust of wind to circulate the communication winds of change, much needed in our society at this time.

I've partnered the Element of WATER with this AIR sign in my Mask Artistry piece entitled “Gemini.” Stacking the power of AIR and WATER, this piece symbolizes the tremendous potentiality of fluid change through intercommunication and communion.

I always love creating Mask Artistry from ocean components. The sea glass and sea urchin spikes that adorn this mask duo pair well with the painted tree moss and pine fronds. There seems to be both a graceful flow and a striking, “”thrust” to the design. The pair faces, painted in blues, greens, white and gold, are truly companions, though not identical twins, and constitute two very closely matched or identical aspects in design, essence, and elements compatibility.
